Dear CAR Member,

California’s housing and homelessness crises were the main themes of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s State of the State address this week. He noted that massively increasing housing production is the only way out of the vicious cycle of not building enough housing for people at all income levels.

C.A.R. agrees with the governor that we need more housing, and we applaud the governor’s dedication to addressing California’s housing shortage and calling on both state and local governments to get serious about increasing the state’s housing supply. C.A.R. believes that housing is an integral part of achieving Gov. Newsom’s bold ‘California for All’ vision. We stand ready to work with him and the legislature to make it happen by advancing policies that make homes for rent and ownership more available and affordable for all Californians.

This year I invite you to join me for a very special Legislative Day on Tuesday, April 28, in Sacramento. For the past 48 years, Legislative Day has remained C.A.R.’s preeminent legislative event, giving California REALTORS® the opportunity to meet and discuss real estate issues directly with your state legislators and staff.

Our theme this year is “Making History,” and the opening session will be held at the beautiful and historic Sacramento Memorial Auditorium, which is just a short walk from the Sacramento Convention Center. The Convention Center is undergoing renovations so our usual venue and day of the week have changed.

Legislative Day is a great investment in your business. Join more than 2,000 California REALTORS® to hear from legislative leaders, C.A.R.’s leadership and chief lobbyists about issues that affect you, your clients and the industry. You’ll also have the opportunity to meet in smaller groups with your elected officials and to network with other REALTORS® from throughout the state.

While attendance at Legislative Day is free for all California REALTORS®, if you’re a first-time attendee, you may be eligible for a Legislative Day scholarship to cover travel expenses. To apply, inquire with your local association. To attend, sign up with your local association of REALTORS®. Get involved and learn more about Legislative Day.

Lastly, this year marks the 100th birthday of California Real Estate magazine, so we’re celebrating all year long. In 1920, the California Real Estate Association (as C.A.R. was known then) launched its first issue of the News Bulletin to its few hundred members. What started as a four-page, black-and-white bulletin is now in full-color, with glossy pages and is barely recognizable from its early days.

For a century, California Real Estate has covered the who, what, when, where and why of California’s real estate industry. Not only that, the magazine is one of the most recognized and highly rated C.A.R. membership benefits.

To commemorate the magazine’s centennial, we’ve added a new “Then and Now” column in the magazine and created some fun handheld magazine covers for you to take your photo with during C.A.R. outreaches and events.

And leading up to the magazine’s official birthday in October, we’ll celebrate at our REimagine! Conference and Expo in Long Beach with a double issue and an official birthday party. In the meantime, we’re going to share with you over the course of the year 100 Things You Need To Know. Look for short, interesting facts and stats that you’ll want to share with your clients and incorporate into your business.

Sincerely,
Jeanne Radsick
C.A.R. President
