Dear CAR Member,

As California’s economy and housing market slowly begin to see signs of improvement, homeownership and housing supply have never been more important to our state’s COVID-19 recovery. During this crisis, we have been focusing on ensuring REALTORS® get the assistance and advice they need. But as we emerge from the worst of the crisis, we must focus on the work that REALTORS® perform, which is essential to our state’s recovery and to the future of California. As you know, homeownership is the lifeblood of our state’s economy and is pivotal to helping working families and those from financially disadvantaged backgrounds build wealth.

The COVID-19 pandemic has put the critical importance of housing supply at center stage: without shelter, it’s impossible to shelter in place. Fortunately, as REALTORS®, we’re at the front lines of protecting and expanding the dream of homeownership and the availability of housing for all Californians now and for generations to come.

There are several bills before the state Legislature this year that will spur housing creation, and in particular, we support Senate President Pro Tem Toni Atkins’ five housing production bills introduced last month.

Homeownership and housing creation are key to California’s recovery, economic health, and long-term future. I know REALTORS® like you stand ready to help usher in California’s post-coronavirus era with supply-oriented solutions to our housing crisis.

Last week, I wrote to you about working for change to promote the values of equality, inclusion and acceptance. As a community of professionals, the CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® is committed to working vigorously to defend policies that bring justice, opportunity and security for all. We’ve started by making a donation to the NAACP Legal and Education Defense Fund and the Brave of Heart Fund. And with the issues of anti-racism at the forefront of our minds, we’ll make changes to become stronger allies and to support the black community.

The coronavirus outbreak has caused many buyers and sellers to reconsider whether now is the time to make a move, but those agents who have put the right strategies in place have maintained momentum despite the disruption. Learn how four of California’s top-producing REALTORS® have been able to safely and successfully close transactions during the pandemic. Register for this free virtual C.A.R. event:How to Keep Business Moving During Uncertain Times: Top Producers Share Their Stories,” moderated by C.A.R. CEO Joel Singer.

Lastly, as California begins to reopen and REALTORS® adapt to serving their clients during the pandemic, I want to remind you that C.A.R. is keeping you up to date by providing you with the vital tools and information you need during this challenging time. Visit car.org/coronavirus to get a wealth of information including news updates, transactions and legal issues, market impact, local ordinances, health and safety tips, best practices, Frequently Asked Questions on numerous topics, as well as many other resources.

Jeanne Radsick
