Dear CAR Member,

Pat Zicarelli

Just a couple of weeks ago, we wrapped up another successful CALIFORNIA REALTOR EXPO in Long Beach, where more than 8,000 of you took part in packed educational sessions and sold-out luncheons. Tech author David Pogue entertained us on Tuesday with some of the latest technology trends. At Wednesday’s luncheon, Capt. Mark Kelly, commander of Space Shuttle Endeavour’s final mission, had us on the edge of our seats as he spoke about the professional and personal challenges he faced when his wife, former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot.  And as usual, C.A.R. Vice President and Chief Economist Leslie Appleton-Young delivered her 2017 California Housing Market Forecast to thunderous applause on Thursday. Check out this video to see some of the highlights of C.A.R.’s “Who’s Your REALTOR®?” EXPO.

Just before EXPO began, Gov. Jerry Brown signed AB 2693 (Dababneh), a C.A.R.-sponsored bill that requires Truth in Lending Integrated Disclosure – or TRID-like disclosures be provided to a property owner participating in a PACE program, a three-day right of rescission, and a notice that the property owner may not be able to refinance or sell without paying off the PACE “loan.” Thank you to all the REALTORS® who participated in this year’s Legislative Day to make your voice heard on this bill.

C.A.R.’s Center for California Real Estate (CCRE) will present “Housing Affordability and California’s Future,” a real estate summit that focuses on housing affordability – the state’s most pressing housing issue. Three private roundtable panels comprising of industry leaders from financial institutions, government agencies, academia, real estate, public policy, business, and investing will discuss the policy, economics, and real estate side of housing affordability. The event is by invitation only but we’ll be livestreaming it for all C.A.R. members to join in. Look for details soon. In case you’ve forgotten, CCRE is an institute from C.A.R., whose goal is to arm C.A.R. members with ideas that help you become more knowledgeable, professional, and insightful in your work as practitioners and stakeholders in the future of real estate. For more information about CCRE.

In closing, as my term as your President concludes, I want to thank each and every one of you for your active involvement with C.A.R. this year. I leave knowing you’ll remain just as involved with your 2017 Leadership Team comprised of President Geoff McIntosh, President-elect Steve White, Treasurer Jared Martin, and C.A.R. Chief Executive Officer Joel Singer. It has been a pleasure serving you.

Have a great weekend.

Sincerely,

Pat Zicarelli
